Mitchell River Watershed, Surry County
     
Brushy Fork is a tributary to the South Fork Mitchell River in Surry County, North Carolina.  The stream had previously been channelized for agricultural purposes and was degraded due to high, eroding stream banks and loss of habitat.  The purpose of this project was to restore the habitat and stability of the stream by providing a floodplain with the streambed remaining at the current elevation, stabilizing the streambanks with in-stream structures, increasing pool habitat by decreasing bank erosion,   removal of invasive species such as mulitflora rose, and reestablishment of a riparian buffer.

Construction was completed on this project in February, 2001.   This project was funded  by the NC Clean Water Managment Trust Fund, through a grant to the Piedmont Land Conservancy.
